For my final project in my UX/UI Design class at NYU, I decided to design a plant care app meant to help you stop killing your leafy friends. No judgement, I just killed a succulent around the time I finished this project.
I conducted initial research to understand the plant care space before delving into the design. My research provided me with ideas on what features to include such as care reminders, adding plants, identifying plants, and diagnosing plants.
For Your Leafy Friends
Flora is a plant care app that helps users properly nurture their house plants. With care reminders, growth/activity tracking, and full plant overviews, users can avoid any more dead plants, along with camera recognition for plant identification and diagnosis.
Project Objective
Plants have exponentially grown in popularity with Millenials and Gen Z. However, it turns out that being a plant parent is harder than expected - which leads to some unexpected dead plants.
The Problem
From a survey with respondants of college-age, a majority had previously taken care of a plant, however, a majority had little confidence in their capabilities.
Based on User Findings:
With the problems being not having the time or knowledge to truly care for a plant, Flora is intended to provide easy and efficient guidance to any plant parents.
The Solution
Features were included such as guidance on basic needs of different plants (how often to water, how much sunlight, etc.), how to diagnose and treat a plant, identifying different plants, and tracking the growth progress of your plants.
Based on User Suggestions:
I mapped out the user flow for Flora to envision how users would interact with the application and use the various functions.
User Flow
Visual Style
I developed a visual style guide for Flora that provides fresh and approachable branding.
These lay out the foundation for the overall UI of Flora and allows me to determine the layout and navigation.

Prototype
Designing with Confidence: This was my first full UX/UI project so this whole project was a learning experience in itself. In completing this, I gained confidence in trusting my research and design capabilities to bring that research into a visual output.
The Power of Bonding: Suggestions were made to me during my first user testing round to include more thorough growth tracking. From this, I learned that users enjoy having more analytics and progress accessible to them.
